Gezel is a local-first desktop app for assembling a team of warm, named AI companions — gezels — and putting them to work. Gilde (Dutch for guild) is the open catalog that powers them: craftbooks that turn vague asks into stepwise plans, model manifests with verified downloads, roles with real character, and toolsets that give a crew its hands.

What is in the catalog
Everything in gilde is plain files: JSON manifests and markdown prose, versioned in the open, shipped as one npm package, and mirrored to this site. A gezel client reads the catalog to offer models it can actually run, craftbooks it can actually follow, and roles it can actually staff.
Craftbooks are the heart of it: 287 playbooks where the first step locks acceptance criteria and a reviewer grades the result against them — the scaffolding a small local model needs to do real work. 287 of them ship with an evaluation sidecar so changes are tested, not vibed.
The catalog updates flow to installed apps through a small staticupdate manifest published on this site — no server, no accounts, no tracking. Local-first all the way down.
